The launch of her new album ‘Live @ The Blue Birdy' at The Corner Hotel Saturday the 6th of December will indeed be “A banquet for the soul”. At this event Jo Jo will be joined onstage by the following “All Star” line up: Greg Lyon – Bass; Steve Magnusson – Guitar; Steve Russell – Piano; David Jones – Drums; Tony Buchannan – Saxophone; and Carl Pannuzzo & Penny Larkins - Backing vocals. Plus very special guests : ‘South of the River Gospel Choir' & Miss Monica Weightman. In recent shows in Germany and Austria , Jo Jo Smith played to crowds of over 500,000 people, where she was hailed as the "Joni Mitchell of R&B" in Germany 's ‘Melodiva' Magazine. A rare diamond in the music industry, her passionate voice lures you as she sings from the soul and when she graces the stage she lifts her audience to a special place. Special Guests South of the River is a community choir celebrating diversity and harmony through a shared passion for singing. Under the direction of Annemarie Sharry, the choir explores the music and rhythms of Africa , traditional African American gospel and original Australian compositions. Since forming in 2002 the 35 voice acappella ensemble has inspired audiences with their lively performances at a diverse range of music festivals and venues throughout Victoria , including Apollo Bay , St Kilda and Queenscliff, Melbourne Town Hall , Crown Casino's Grand Palladium Ballroom, Federation Square and The Royal Melbourne Show. One of our greatest public performances to date was the 2006 ABC Classic FM National Choir of the Year Awards . In July 2006, South of the River won a place in the Victorian State Final of this national "Sing Out" competition. Of the 40 Victorian choirs who participated in the state wide audition process South of the River were one of four finalists selected to "Sing Out" at the Melbourne Town Hall for a place in the national final. This performance was broadcast live across Australia on ABC Classic FM radio on Monday 31st July 2006 . South of the River were thrilled with their place in the finals and enjoyed the rigor and discipline that was required to progress to such a high level in a fierce and highly contested competition.
